Chill ride to Staten Island with PDL New York

This is my first attempt at putting a video together. I'm a photo guy. I got a go pro for Christmas, so I've been taking it out here and there.

This is from a laid back ride to Staten Island that we did last Sunday. We ended up on the Staten Island boardwalk, and had brunch at South Fin Grill. The food was fan-fuckin-tastic. We definitely did not fit in with the well-dressed Sunday family crowd in our bike gear. We'll definitely be going back soon!

A couple nice Rossin's on the bay

Anyone that knows me by now knows that I have a serious soft spot for Rossin's. I'm always searching for them online, and I'm sure at some point I'll end up with a second one. Anyways, here are a couple I came across on ebay recently:

Although I'm not a big fan of the modern components on the bike, this thing is pretty sick. I love the old TT frames, and they are super rare. Link to auction and more photos HERE.



I'm posting this one because its literally the first time in almost 2 years that I've found another Rossin like mine. This is the RLX, a columbus SLX frame. Overall, its pretty similar component-wise as mine. I think mine is in better shape though ;) Either way, its nice to know that another exists out there. Link to auction and photos HERE.

I haven't rode fixed in awhile, and its been even longer since I got together with everyone riding fixed. Sunday we rode to Jersey City for a good ride and some eats at Mitsuwa. All shots via iPhone.

2011 Marnoni Pista: built

I finished building The Marinoni a few days ago. I swapped most of the parts over from my Felt with the exception of a few bits. I'm in love with this thing so far. The ride quality is excellent. It's steel, but lighter than my aluminum felt. The toe overlap is minimal, and the paint and chrome finish is amazing.

A couple reasons why I chose the frame: I wanted a steel frame, and this fit the bill nicely. I had been looking at them for the past 3 years. I always loved the older Marinoni frames and road bikes, so I figured I couldn't lose. You can order direct from them as they are located in Quebec, Canada. When ordering a frame from them, you can choose between a 1 or 2 color paint scheme from any of 38 colors. The logo colors are an option too. New Frame Day!

I picked up this Iro Rob Roy frame for a pretty good price. They haven't made the frame for a few years, but it was new, still wrapped in the original packaging. I also ordered a new track frame to replace my cracked Felt (details later). It won't be finished for a couple months.

For now, the Iro will be built up as a fixed gear until I get my new track frame. Eventually it'll become a SSCX bike that will also serve as my winter bike. I should have it rideable by next week. I'm in sort of a disarray with my bike stable right now. I've been riding my BMC and Rossin a lot more lately, which is great, but I need my fixed fix...

Sorry for the shit picture, but at this point its not much to look at...

Kissena Track Omnium 7/17/11

I did my first official track race at kissena Velodrome this past Sunday with a few friends. I wasn't sure if I'd like track racing, but after Sunday, I can say that I'm hooked. I had my moments during the day, and I did pretty well. I was riding on a cracked frame (see older posts). By the last race, the crack had gotten worse, and it was hard not to pay attention to the creaking sound emanating from my seat tube. It was pretty sketchy. All in all, it was an awesome day, and I can't wait to get back out there!

Cracked Felt TK2

My Felt has been creaking more and more lately. I honestly thought it was the bottom bracket, but I just replaced it a month or 2 ago. After I got home from my normal ride home from work, I inspected my frame and found this crack. It spans the whole width of the seat tube mast like a frowning face. I'm pretty bummed. I was supposed to race at Kissena this weekend, plus I'm broke. Very bad timing. I've been on the hunt for frames all night to no avail. I hope Felt can come through with the warranty coverage. This blows.

San Jose, SJFixed, iMinusD

One of the best times I had while in California was my ride with SJFixed. These guys do a couple group rides a week, and I was lucky to get in on one while I was there. San Jose is soooo nice to ride in, especially after you've been battling traffic in NYC. The roads are well taken care of and seem endless. The sun is just...different. There is barely any traffic to worry about, and there are bike lanes everywhere. I could easily get used to that.

While I was in San Jose I also checked out iMinusD. They had some serious bikes on display. Unfortunately all I had on my was my iphone. I snagged a jersey and some stickers. Definitely worth checking out the shop if you are ever there. It feels like a tight knit community out there for sure!

It was a great experience being able to ride on the left coast with some like individuals. I wish I could have got in on more rides. Next time I'm out that way I'm definitely making my trip more bike centric!

Cyclops track frame

This new addition to the Velo Cult Museum is stunning. Cyclops frames are grails in my opinion, and this one may top any one I've ever seen. Half wild paint, and half raw, this thing is awesome! See more HERE!
