Iro in CX mode

I've been loving this bike since I got it this past summer. Its my go-to bike for commutes, quick rides and lock-ups. I finally added some finishing touches. I got a great deal on an Easton ec90x fork, and I also swapped the cane creek levers for some SRAM s500's. Because of my knee issues, I'm probably only going to end up doing 1 CX race this year. I'm signed up for Staten CX in november and looking forward to it! My cross wheels are mis-matched, but fuck it, its what I got. I rarely ride it with them anyway. For my normal commuter mode, I have a set of Mavic cxp22's with Paselas.

crashes and new whips...

Its been awhile since I posted. I was out of town, and lacking in internet access. Anyways, I got my IRO rideable. I felt comfortable on it immediately. Its a bit on the heavy side, but the plush ride of steel makes up for it.

Yesterday was the first day that I got it to the phase you see in the pictures. Last night on my way home from work, I was riding home pretty fast. I cut between a cab and the curb on the corner of Spring and Lafeyette. The door on the cab swung open. I was propelled almost in front of the cab. I landed on my head and shoulder. The people riding behind me said that they literally watched me flip over the door.

I escaped with a bruised wrist, knee, and shoulder. The shoulder is the only thing I'm concerned with. I may get X-rays because it seems like it may be more than a bruise. All in all, I'm REALLY lucky. This is the first time I've been doored. I've had some friends who didn't fare so well in the same situation. My helmet was cracked. Without it, I would be in really rough shape. My front wheel was wayyyy out of true and my tire popped off the wheel. I was able to get everything back together and finish my ride home, albeit a bit slow and shook up. I've officially broken in my bike.

I'm going to be changing a few things in the future. I'm going to change the chainring and overall gearing, different pedals, cross tires, and possible a carbon CX fork. For now I'm digging it as is. Its good to have a practical, do-all bike in the stable. This fits the bill well.

Moving forward...

I took apart the Felt today, and stashed the frame in a dark corner of my apartment. Out of sight, out of mind.

I also started building the IRO. I've ordered a bunch of parts, most of which aren't here yet. I'm hoping to have it rideable next week some time.

I bought an FSA CX headset with integrated cable hanger.

Also, I officially put in the order for my new track frame. Turns out the wait time will be half of what I thought. I can't wait!

New Frame Day!

I picked up this Iro Rob Roy frame for a pretty good price. They haven't made the frame for a few years, but it was new, still wrapped in the original packaging. I also ordered a new track frame to replace my cracked Felt (details later). It won't be finished for a couple months.

For now, the Iro will be built up as a fixed gear until I get my new track frame. Eventually it'll become a SSCX bike that will also serve as my winter bike. I should have it rideable by next week. I'm in sort of a disarray with my bike stable right now. I've been riding my BMC and Rossin a lot more lately, which is great, but I need my fixed fix...
